If you have been quoted thousands for an implant or a crown at home, you are not alone. Private dentistry in the UK, the US and Australia is expensive, and many people now look abroad. Here is an honest comparison using published home-country figures and our own starting prices.

Starting prices at K9 Dental Hospital

  • Dental implant: from LKR 135,000

  • Zirconia crown: from LKR 36,000

  • Rotary root canal: from LKR 28,000 per tooth

  • Laser teeth whitening: from LKR 30,000

  • Clear aligners and braces: from LKR 250,000

These are starting prices. Your final cost depends on your X-rays and the plan you choose, and you get it in writing before treatment begins.

United Kingdom

A single implant at a UK private clinic starts from around £2,400 (Bupa Dental Care). Private crowns are often quoted at £700 to £1,500 and root canals at £450 to £1,200 or more (WeCovr 2026 private price guide). Our implant starting price works out at roughly £353.

United States

A CareCredit and Synchrony study put the average US implant at $2,143, a porcelain crown at $1,399 and a molar root canal at $1,337. At K9, the same starting prices come to roughly $406 for an implant, $108 for a zirconia crown and $84 for a root canal.

Australia

CHOICE, citing the Australian Dental Association's 2022 fee survey, lists implants at A$1,334 to A$3,000 before the abutment and an average crown at A$1,678. Our starting prices are roughly A$578 for an implant and A$154 for a crown.

What the price does not show

Cheaper is only worth it if the work is planned properly and you can get follow-up care. Before you book anywhere abroad, ask:

  • How many visits will I need, and how many days apart?

  • What is included in the quote, and what could change it?

  • What happens if I need an adjustment after I fly home?

Implants in particular need healing time between stages, so many patients plan two trips. Our visitor's guide explains timing in more detail.

Get helpful answers to frequently asked questions about dental care, treatments, and appointments.

How often should I visit the dentist for checkups?

Most people benefit from a routine dental checkup and cleaning every six months. Your dentist may recommend more frequent visits based on your individual oral-health needs.

What can I do to prevent tooth decay effectively?

Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, clean between your teeth every day, limit sugary snacks and drinks, and keep up with regular dental checkups.

Are professional teeth cleanings necessary for oral health?

Yes. Professional cleanings remove hardened plaque and tartar that brushing alone cannot reach, helping lower the risk of cavities, gum disease, and bad breath.

What should I expect during my first dental appointment?

Your first visit usually includes a review of your health history, an examination of your teeth and gums, possible X-rays, and time to discuss any concerns or treatment options.

How can I keep my gums healthy every day?

Brush gently along the gumline twice a day, floss or use interdental cleaners daily, eat a balanced diet, and book a dental visit if you notice bleeding, swelling, or sensitivity.
